Uses of glutathione:
Glutathione is mainly used as an antioxidant and is essential for the functioning of the immune system. It neutralizes the harmful molecules or free radicals in the body, protecting and preserving individual cells, tissues, the brain, heart and kidneys. It has been used to treat symptoms of neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, stroke, ALS, irritable bowel, chronic fatigue and cataracts. Many patients have experienced profound improvements such as reduction of rigidity, increased mobility, less depression and improved speech. Studies also show that Glutathione helps in preventing some forms of cancer.
In increased doses, Glutathione is helpful in skin whitening. It modifies the conversion of the dark/brown pigmentation eumelanine to phaeomelanin, a yellowish white pigmentation.
It serves as an anti-aging substance because it aids in the breakdown of oxidized fats. Glutathione is also required for carbohydrate metabolism.
There are no reported side effects of Glutathione even in prolonged use. As some put it, skin whitening is the better side effect of Glutathione in double doses.
What is glutathione? Glutathione is a small protein composed of three amino acids cysteine, glutamic acid and glycine. It is produced by the body and acts as a powerful antioxidant, protecting and preserving the brain and other tissues against free radicals. It is involved in detoxification, binding itself to toxins such as heavy metals, chemical pollutants and carcinogens and transforming them into a form which can be easily flushed out of the body.
